Island Acupuncture & Assoc.

Our Acupuncturist

Tammy Belanger, Lic.Ac., MAc., OTR/L, CEAS is a Massachusetts licensed and Board Certified Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbal Consultant, and Occupational Therapist with over 28 years of medical experience.  She believes that a thorough background in Western medicine and Western diagnostics plays an important part in her understanding of her clients conditions and actually helps her to determine the best course of action to be taken within her practice of Eastern medicine.  Whether you are new to acupuncture or come to the island with acupuncture experience, Tammy will easily be able to comprehend your diagnoses, and fit a treatment plan to meet your individualized needs.

She graduated cum laude with a Master's degree in 2000 from the New England School of Acupuncture (NESA), the oldest school of acupuncture and oriental medicine in the United States (which is now affiliated with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences!). While there, she studied Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal medicine, magnet therapy, and moxibustion. After school she studied Japanese acupuncture under the direction of world renowned Kiiko Matsumoto and her husband David Euller.  Other studies have included further education in shonishin (non needle treatment for children), Master Tung acupuncture, Dr. Tan acupuncture, and facial acupuncture.

Prior to her training for acupuncture, Tammy also studied and received cum laude her Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) from the University of New Hamphire.  She has worked with all age groups (pediatrics to geriatrics) in multiple hospital and rehabilitative settings, and received her Certified Ergonomics Assessment Specialist training from the Back School of Atlanta.  She has worked at Nantucket Cottage Hospital per diem in the past and also at Our Island Home on Nantucket.

Tammy has also shared her knowledge of her profession with nursing and athletic training students as an Adjunct Professor of Biology and Allied Health at Merrimac College.

Tammy believes that her training is never done!  While of course she maintains her CPR and Clean Needle Technique training, from the love of her work is a desire to learn more every opportunity she gets.  She loves attending continuing education classes in her quest for knowledge and advanced techniques that will help her clients.  Stay tuned, or call to see what she is up to next!

Tammy also enjoys teaching and speaking about what she does! She welcomes the opportunity to speak with you or your group should you visit our beautiful island of Nantucket.
